ご縁

私、このたびあいづちに参加することになりました。皆様と知り合える機会をいただいたことに感謝しています。

それはラプレツィオーサ伸子さんに声をかけていただいたのがきっかけです。彼女とは数年前にフィラデルフィアで出会いました。当地に来たのはチャプレンの職を得たのがきっかけです。それは、知人の紹介によるものです。

チャプレンになるための教育はコロラド州ボールダーの大学院で受けました。ボールダーには以前に日本の会社勤めのときに駐在員として住んだことがあり、そこの学校があることを知りました。会社員としていろいろな職務を経たあと、たまたまこの派遣を命じられたものです。その会社には友人の勧めで就職しました。

このように私が今日ここにいるのは、これまでの人生の中で数え切れない様々な人々や出来事との出会いによるものです。ブッダが悟りを得たあと最初に説いた教えの中に「縁起（えんぎ）」があります。この世のあらゆるものが、無数の原因と条件によって生じ、持続し、また消滅するという真理を説いたものです。

「ご縁」は、これを日本人が解釈し、文化の中に取り入れたものです。私は、これまでの様々なご縁に感謝しています。

Go En: Auspicious Encounter

I am grateful for having the opportunity of meeting with all of you in the service of Aizuchi.

This was brought by getting in touch with Ms Nobuko Lapreziosa. I encountered with her in Philadelphia a few years ago. I moved to this city because I got a job of chaplain, which was introduced by an acquaintance of mine.

I received a training to become a chaplain at a graduate school in Boulder, CO. Before it, I had lived in the city as a representative of a Japanese company. At that time I learned about the school. I was dispatched to this post after experiencing many assignments in the company. I joined the company as recommended by a friend.

This way, I am here now thanks to countless encounters with people and events in my life. One of the first teachings of The Buddha that he preached after his attainment of enlightenment is the dependent arising. It means the truth that every being and event in the universe arises, abides, and ceases due to innumerable causes and conditions.

Go En is what the Japanese people interpreted this teaching and embraced into the culture. I read it as Auspicious Encounter in English. I am grateful for the various Go En that I have had so far.
