春の樹の花

この時期の楽しみは、散歩の途中で見る次々に咲く樹の花を見ることです。それぞれの花が、それぞれの色で、葉が出て緑になった林に彩りを添えてくれます。ハナミズキは日本でも街路樹として多く見かけます。1912年に日本から米国に贈った桜の苗がワシントンDCのポトマック河畔の桜となりました。1915年にその返礼として米国から日本にハナミズキの苗が贈られて来ました。それが日本で多くの人に好まれて各地に植えられたそうです。日本古来のミズキと同じように花が上を向いて開きます。写真のフジも日本から来たもののように見えます。植物が国境を超えて人々に好かれて世界に広がるのはうれしいですね。

It is my pleasure in this season to watch the tree flowers during my walking in my neighborhood. They bloom one after another in different colors and shapes, adding beauty to the fresh green trees. The dogwood is popular as a street tree in Japan. Japan sent the young plants of cherry to the U.S. as a gift in 1912. The U.S. returned the dogwood trees to Japan in 1915. The Japanese people liked them and they spread widely in the country. The wisteria in the photo seems to have come from Japan. I am pleased to know that the plants spread worldwide across the borders being loved by people of different regions.
